Remote Linguaskill: Test Environment and 360° Room Check Instructions

When starting your Remote Linguaskill test, you must complete and record a 360° environment check using your webcam or built-in laptop camera. 

You will be prompted to start the environment check after you have taken your test day photo and completed the ID check.

This check is required to demonstrate that your testing environment complies with our security requirements. 

Your result may be disqualified if the environment check is not completed correctly.

Preparing Your Environment

Please ensure that:

• You are alone in the room and doors are closed.
• Your desk or work surface is clear of all unauthorised materials.
• No reference materials, for example, dictionaries or course books are within reach.
• Electronic devices such as mobile phones*, tablets or other smart devices must be removed from the test room.
• Your wristwatch or smartwatch has been removed and is kept outside of the test room.
• Any additional monitors must be disconnected, any other screens or televisions in the room are switched off, covered over or removed where possible.

*  If you experience technical difficulties during the test, you may use a mobile phone to contact your test centre. The phone must be kept outside the test room and only accessed when required. Once the issue has been resolved, the phone must be removed from the test room.

Recording the Environment Check

Using your webcam or laptop camera, slowly record the following areas when prompted:

1. Your Desk or Work Area

• Show the entire desk surface.
• Ensure all areas of the desk are visible.
• Lift or move any permitted items so that the desk can be clearly seen.
• Demonstrate that there are no unauthorised materials present.

2. Under the Desk

• Angle the camera downward to show the space beneath your desk or table.
• Ensure the area is clearly visible and free from notes, books, devices, bags or other prohibited materials.

3. The Walls of the Room

• Slowly rotate the camera to show all walls surrounding your workspace.
• Include any noticeboards or posters or other displayed materials.
• Remove or cover any information that could assist you during the test.

4. The Entire Room

• Perform a slow 360° scan of the room.
• Show doors, windows, shelving, cupboards, and other areas where materials could be stored.

5. The Ceiling 

• Tilt the camera upwards to show the ceiling and upper areas of the room.

Important Reminders

• Move the camera slowly so that all areas are clearly visible.
• Ensure the room is well-lit.
• The environment check must be completed during the pre-test checks when prompted.
• Failure to provide an adequate room scan may result in delays or your result being disqualified.
